DepEd launches ICT program for students, teachers, school heads

The educational effectiveness of ICT’s depends on how they are used and for what purpose. The report is focused on innovative use of technology but that will only happen when the technology starts being used in meaningful way. Just like having knowledge in using ICT. It provides educational institutions with advanced technology tools that enable them to create a quality learning environment. Schools with ICT’s have found that students who have access to a digital learning environment are more stimulated, more motivated, and perform better academically. ICT makes learning and teaching enjoyable and affordable, easy solutions to get students up to speed on their computer skills, help teachers deliver their curriculums in new ways, and provide them with easy access to information.  Networked learning, computer labs and libraries can be equipped with more workstations, more effective teaching and learning which utilized each knowledge of students as well as the citizen of the country.

The program has 3 phases. First, the chosen school will be equipped with relevant ICT infrastructure like an enhanced ICT laboratory complete with at least 30 networked-computers, and multimedia tools such as LCD projectors, screens, and television sets. Globe will also provide both wired and wireless connectivity as well as involve other partners like the World Wildlife Fund or WWF to help make the ICT infrastructure sustainable and more energy-efficient. The team hopes to identify more public high schools which have consistently and effectively used information technology in its teaching, learning, and management practices. Aiming to enhance the capabilities of public high schools' use of ICT platforms, the program also intends to make these high schools as centers for ICT-enabled academic and community programs. The use of ICT as tutors, for drill and practice, and for instructional delivery, combined with traditional instruction, results in increases in learning in the traditional curriculum and basic skills areas, as well as higher test scores in some subjects compared to traditional instruction alone.

The program has many goals that we want to achieve. Just like having skilled students when it comes to the practical use of technology in their schools. The students also learn more quickly, greater retention, and are motivated to learn when they work with the use of ICT. And also this program aims to produce graduates whose capabilities to make significant contributions to the country and the rest of the world with global standards. It serves as a program that could make a change at the time when education seems to be at its lower level. I hope that this will continue in the coming years so that the government as well as different firm that help the educational setting of our country would continue to be motivated and inspired with the common goal to serve the community and give way for the development of each child that would be our hope in the future.
