World without computer




                In the past generation, technology has been developing. The society had been rising because of new discoveries that made life easier. Now a day, we are in the time of innovations and discoveries where the industry gives way for development. Different individuals used technology on different ways. Technology serves as an instrument that gives satisfaction to the needs of every person. Not also to the needs but also to luxuries that man wants to have. An example very useful technology that man invented is the computer. Computer is a machine that performs different task according to the command of an individual.  
Computers are commonly used items in many areas. It is an important thing to people, especially the people who run organizations, industry, etc. . . Almost anything you know is run or made by computers. Cars and jets were designed on computers, traffic signals are run by computers, most medical equipment use computers and space exploration was started with computers. Most of the jobs today require the use of computers. These 'mechanical brains' made a huge impact on our society. It would be hard if we didn't have the computer around. 
 
Now let's take a look at deeper level. There will be no computers. That means no operating system, no software support, no search engine, no browser, and no internet. There will be no concept of e-books, no PDF and Adobe packages will become junk. There will be no hardware peripherals plug-in without CPU. There will be no connection for printer, scanner and similar electronic gadgets. There will be no internet facility so no real time money transfers, no online transactions, no webcam, no local area network. All connected worldly items will turn into disconnected islands. Every office will be filled with the noise of typewriters, lots of paper, whiteners. You will see long wait for the completion of bulk or complex assignments. More people and manual labor effort will be required to complete simple task and to finish any development in less time. Documented paper will need more space to store in massive warehouse. Offices will be more crowded to fulfill individual requirements and ultimately simple things will also turn into big mess. Education system will be highly impacted. Teachers and students will have to co-ordinate constantly and interact more often in order to understand & complete the syllabus within time. New learners will have to be more dependent.


Computers helped the world a lot and helped us take a large step into the future. Businesses and entertainment uses them to make profits, Education uses them to help educate students better, the Medical field uses computers in many different ways, and other areas. Without the computers help, none of this would be possible. The world would be a dull and primitive place. No cures for diseases, ne good entertainment, less transportation. You see how the computers changed today's society? It changed society it a lot. You may think that the computer didn't impact you. If you play computer or play station games, if you watch the latest movies like Wing Commander, or you did research on a topic for your school on computer, you were affected by the computer. Everyone was impacted by this remarkable device.

Battle of the Skills

      In the last 12th day of February, another memorable event was held by TLE Council. An event proved that every students taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Technology and Livelihood Education have their own skills and talent that must be shown in every people.


 
    At first we were so busy in preparing for the competition. We were assign for each category. The first category was the fruit carving and table skirting in which Jackielyn Estiller and Estrellita Magno were the participants for the main campus.


  


     They did a good job for their creation. Even though they did not win, it serves as a good experience for them. Maybe good center gives them more chance to win. They did their best but Camarin campus won the category in table skirting because as I've notice they have intricate design and a beautiful center piece.  



   


     At the same time Quiz Bee is also conducting. On that time, I realized that every TLE students have their own expertise. 




       The next event is Flairtendeng where Janine Gutierrez stand out from other participants. I was so glad  when I was watching her dancing giving her best to entertain every student and professors watching her. We were so proud to have her on our course even though she did not got the first plays, still she is our winner.
    
                                                        


    
   But at that time we where preparing for the main event of the competition which is the Cosmetology Category. I was assigned to be the designer. Me and my Co-participants were so glad to see a beautiful creation made up of scratch. But I think if we were given enough time to prepare, I can see our creation better than the other contestants.




      The TLE Competition 2012 became successful and enjoyed by every student especially TLE students and Professors. 

ROBOTS in the FUTURE

What's next to computer?

           

      As time goes by, we cannot say that humans can create a thing that can help teaching and learning process. Just like computer that serves as a tutor and tool for teachers. But if you will ask me what do I think that will next to computer, maybe it is robot. Robots that can enhance the learning of every classroom. Robots that help every student to excel on their studies. Their main task is to perform certain tasks such as teaching various skills. 


         The robots should be able to teach the people certain words, or to play elementary imitation. The teaching has not been very complex, as the robots are somewhat limit from this point of view so far, and everything has been conducted in a controlled environment. Even so, all of the robots have certain software. The robots can recognize speech and motion tracking, and as a result they can be used in the case of certain people.


        There is much more to robotics education than just teaching about robots. Students at all grade levels are fascinated with robots; and educators have found that teaching with robots provides a new and exciting way to interest and motivate their students. Robots are finding their way into the classroom to help teach science, math, mechanics, teamwork and even management skills.

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act)

          The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is a United States bill introduced by U.S. Representative Lamar S. Smith  to expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goodsIts intent is to more heavily enforce copyright infringement across the web, holding severe consequences for any site owner whose property is found to be in disobedience.Provisions include the requesting of court orders to bar advertising networks and payment facilities from conducting business with infringing websites, and search engines from linking to the sites, and court orders requiring Internet service providersto block access to the sites. The law would expand existing criminal laws to include unauthorized streaming of copyright material, imposing a maximum penalty of five years in prison. A similar bill in the Senate is called the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA).


            SOPA is an anti-piracy bill working its way through Congress that would grant content creators extraordinary power over the internet to the point of potentially creating an "Internet Blacklist". while exacting a huge cost from nearly every site you use daily and potentially disappearing your entire digital life. Its Advocates, largely those in and supporting the entertainment industry, believe the bill is needed to crack down on increasing levels of online piracy, particularly from foreign websites. And the dissenters believe that SOPA goes against First Amendment rights, is a form of Internet censorship and would limit information accessibility on the web.

                Modern teaching and learning environments make extensive use of web-based content from a variety of sources and through a variety channels. While much of the content is licensed from publishers with appropriate accommodations for academic uses, a good deal of content may reside on websites that do not have the proper copyright permissions for every image, audio, or video clip to which they provide access. SOPA  limits our access to open information on the internet.  Our students need to learn how to analyze and evaluate information from multiple sources and perspectives, and SOPA could make it difficult for this to happen.  Websites that allow users to post comments, communicate on message boards, upload and share content, or encourage the open sharing of information and ideas can easily be shut down by a single post or comment linking to the wrong website. The ability to openly collaborate and communicate with a global community of educators is what makes online professional learning so powerful, and these proposed laws could seriously hinder the possibilities.

Quality of Education through educational technology
§  As educators become more keenly aware of their responsibility to deliver the best quality education to students, they have began to recognize the need to be aware of educational technology.
§  With photo copier, now students can have a copy of relevant sections of books and articles and take them home for study.

In ET 1 the learner also oriented of dangers of dehumanization.
1.         We turn them on and off whenever it suits our fancy.
2.         No explanation is offered on why and what they do.

6.         Human empathy is absent.

On the application of educ. Tech. to instruction ET1 showed the 4 phases of educational tech. in teaching-learning namely;
1.     Identification of objectives-logical approach to human activities
2.     Design of learning experiences- the teacher must consider (a) sequences and strategies and (b) modes and medi
3.  Evaluation of the effectiveness of the learning experiences- the use of evaluative devices, (a) observation devices: checklist, rating scales, anecdotal records (b) self-report instruments: inventories, questionnaires (c) test items: essay and objective types.
4. Improvement of the learning experiences as to better achieve the objectives- revisions may be done, such as by changes in the media or materials employed.

·         Instructional technology are those aspects of educational technology  that are concerned primarily with instruction as contrasted to design and operation of educational instructions.
·         Educational media are the means of communication available for educational purposes other than the teacher himself.
·         Audio-visual aids emphasizes the use of the senses hearing (audial) seeing (visual)

·         Message-content to be taught.
·         Medium-the shape of the message.
·         Channel-is the vehicle or the structure through which the medium is presented to the learner.

An overview: Educational Technology 2
Educational Technology 2 is concerned with “Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.” Specifically this is focus in introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational Technology.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
ü  To, provide education with the use of Technology in instruction by providing knowledge and skills on Technology Integration-In-Instruction to learners.
ü  To impart learning experiences in Instructional Technology supported instructional planning.
ü  To acquaint students on information technology or IT related learning theories with the computer as a tutor.
ü  To, learn how to use and evaluate computer-based educational resources.
ü  To engage learners on practical technology integration issues  including managing IT classrooms, use of the internet for learning, cooperative learning through the use of information technology, etc
ü  To inculcate higher-level thinking and creativity among students while providing them knowledge of IT-related learning theories.

New Zealand 2001 ICT Goals and Strategies
Goal
Government with the education and technology sectors, community groups, and industry envisions to support to the development of the capability of schools to use information and communication technologies in teaching-and-learning and in administration.
Strategies:
—        Improving learning outcomes for students using ICT to support the curriculum.
—        Using ICT to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of educational administration.
—        Developing partnership with communities to enhance access to learning through ICT.

Australia IT Initiatives
In the Adelaide Declaration on National Goals for  schools, information technology is one of the eight national goals/learning areas students should achieve.                  
            The plan for achieving the national goal for IT are left to individual states and territories with the Educational Network Australia (EdNA) as the coordinating and advisory body.
Common features to planning, funding and implementation are:
—        Fast local and wide area networks linking schools across the state and territory.
—        Substantial number of computers in schools, ensuring adequate access

Basic Concepts on Integrating Technology in Instruction
Integrating technology with teaching means the use of learning technologies to introduce, reinforce, supplement, and extend skill. There are different levels of integration of technology in instruction. There is NO INTEGRATIVE PROCESS if for example the teacher makes students play computer games to them a rest period during classes

More recent ET education practice
•           Through school or training center computer courses, present-day students have become computer literate. They send e-mail, prepare computer encoded class reports, and even make power-point presentations sometimes to the surprise of their media tradition-bound teachers.
•           Following the call for developing critical thinking among students, teachers have deemphasized rote learning and have spent more time in methods to allow students to comprehend/internalize lessons.
•           Shifting focus from lower-level traditional learning outcomes, student assessment/examinations have included measurement of higher level learning outcomes such as creative and critical thinking skills.
•           Recent teaching-learning models (such as constructivism and social constructivism) have paved the way for instructional approaches in which
Students rely less on teachers as information-givers, and instead more in their efforts to acquire information, build their own knowledge, and solve problems. 
Obstacles to IT pedagogical practice
·         Use of the computer is time-consuming and expensive.
·          Besides there also danger of a technology-centered classroom along the fear that computers may soon replace teachers.
·         Teachers should balance their time for the preparation and application of instructional tools. Through wise technical advice, schools can also acquire the most appropriate computer hardware and software. At the same time, training should ensure that the use of ET is fitted to learning objectives.
·          In addition, teachers should acquire computer skills for so that they can serve as models in integrating educational technology in the teaching-learning process.schools should now foster a student-centered learning environment, where in students are given leeway to use computer information sources in their assignments, reports and presentations in written, visual, or dramatic forms.
Lesson 6
IT ENTERS A NEW LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
MEANINGFUL LEARNING
It focuses to new experiences that are related to what the learner already knows. it assumes that:
·          Students already have some knowledge that is relevant to new learning
·          Students are willing to perform class work to find connections between what they already know and what they can learn
DISCOVERY LEARNING
·         The students perform task to uncover what is to be learned.
            GENERATIVE LEARNING
It viewed students as active learner who can attend to learning events, it is different from the simple process of storing information.
            CONSTRUCTIVISM
In constructivism, the learner builds a personal understanding through appropriate learning activities and good learning environment. The most accepted principles are:
·         Learning consists in what person can actively assemble for himself and not what he can receive passively.
·         T he role of learning is to help the individual live/adapt to his personal world.
·         Three practical implications:
·         The learner is directly responsible for learning.
·         The context of meaningful learning consists in the learner “connecting” his school activity with real life.
·         The purpose of education is the acquisition of practical and personal knowledge, not abstract or universal truths.
The common themes for the four learning domains:
            LEARNERS
·         Are active, purposeful learners
·         Set personal goals and strategies to achieve these goals
·         Make their learning experiences meaningful and relevant to their lives.
·         Seek to build an understanding of their personal worlds so they can work/live productively.
·         Build on what they already know in order to interpret and respond to new experiences
Lesson 7
IT for higher thinking skills and creativity
higher level learning outcomes-
To define higher level thinking skills and creativity, we may adopt a framework that is a helpful synthesis of many models and definitions on the subject matter. The framework is not exhaustive but a helpful guide for the teacher's effort to understand the learner's higher learning process

             give these complex thinking skills, the modern day teacher can now be guided on his goal to help student achieve higher level thinking skills and creativity beyond the ordinary bench mark of student's passing ,even excelling achievement tests. Given the fact that the ordinary classroom is awfully lacking in instructional toolkits to bring students to the higher domains of learning and achieving, the project method is suggested
The process

the process of implementation takes the students to the steps, efforts, and experience in project completion
The process is more important that the products

          the process refers to the thinking/affective/psycho-motor process that occurs on the part of the learner. This comprises the journey that actualizes learning
          The product is the result of this all-important process consisting in possibly a summary, a poster, an essay, a term paper, a dramatic presentation, or an IT-based product.
Lesson 8
Higher thinking skill through IT based project.
There are four IT-based projects:
Resource-based project
-       In these projects, the teacher step out of the traditional role of being an content expert and information provider, and instead lets the student find their own facts and information.

Simple creations
-       Students can also be assigned to create their software  materials to supplement the need for relevant and effective materials.
Creativity is said to combine three kind of skills/abilities:
·         Analyzing- distinguishing similarities and differences seeing the project as a problem to be solved.
·         Synthesizing- making spontaneous connections among ideas, thus generating interesting or new ideas.
·         Promoting- selling of new ideas to allow the public to test the ideas themselves.
 Guided hypermedia projects
-       The production of self-made multimedia projects can be approached in two different ways:
1.    As an instructive tool.
2.    As a communication tool.
     4. Web-based projects
            - Students can be made to create and post webpage’s on a given topic.
